Mindful Monday - Do Your Best

Do your best.

This little mantra has been a fairly consistent phrase of encouragement throughout my life.  As a physical therapist who primarily worked with the geriatric population, I would often tell my patients that all they had to do was their best.  "We're comparing you to you" I would tell them when they voiced concerns about not doing as well as someone else.  Now that I'm a stay at home mom who is homeschooling our son, this phrase came up again when we were working on what our classroom rules should be.

Of course I thought this little mantra would be perfect for our Mindful Mondays.  Your craft doesn't have to be like the other person's craft, and one isn't better than the other.  What's important is the joy it brings you and that you are doing your best.
I think it's also helpful to remember that your best today is not going to be the same as it was yesterday or will be tomorrow.  Yes, compare you to you and not to someone else, but if you feel like you're having an off day, try to step back and think about some outside forces that could be the culprit.  Did you sleep poorly?  Are you drinking enough water?  Are you feeling pain somewhere that wasn't there yesterday?
It seems like crafters hold themselves to such a high standard sometimes and we don't consider the fact that we don't have to be perfect all the time (did you see my WIP Wednesday post?).
Just do your best in this moment, because when you really think about it, that's all you can do.
